Davis Gets a Shot

It looks like “Wedgie” reconsidered on sending Carmona out for what was sure to be another scene from Dead Man Walking. After a gem by Jake Westbrook through eight innings, EW sent Jason Davis out to mop up the mess. Good thing. I don’t think another blown save would have been good for the 22-year-olds mental state at this point. It would have been like feeding fresh meat to a pack of lions. Here are the stats for Carmona in his first week on the job.

Two innings in three games, which resulted in 4 walks, 6 hits, 9 runs, and a .545 average by opposing batters. This little statline all results in a 40.50 ERA and a notch on Big Papi’s bat.
The question that begs to be asked is where do they go from here. Is Davis the closer? Is Carmona the closer? Do they have a closer by committee? We all remember that experiment last time. It just adds another question to the list that has to be addressed in the off-season. This could be a very interesting winter.
